2. Scope

This privacy policy applies to the website abovergleich.com and all related services (health insurance calculator, cancellation letter service, switch reminder, user accounts). It explains which personal data we process, for what purpose and to whom we disclose it.

The applicable law is the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP / revFADP) in the version in force since 1 September 2023.

3. What data we process

3.1 Health insurance calculator (anonymous)

When you use the premium calculator, the following information is sent to our server:

• Postcode
• Year of birth
• Deductible level and accident cover
• optionally, your current health insurer

Your browser remembers your entries locally (localStorage) until you delete them.

Statistics: After each comparison we store the postcode, year of birth, canton and premium region, deductible, accident cover, your current insurer, the cheapest insurer shown, the amount you pay today, rounded to 10 francs, and the calculated saving. If you click "Switch", we also store the insurer you chose. We do not store any name, email address or IP address with this, and we set no cookies. The entries are not linked to one another, and we cannot attribute them to any person.

Purpose: Analysing which insurer people switch from and to and how much it pays off, and improving the calculator. Only aggregated figures are published.

3.2 Reading a bill or policy (optional)

In the calculator you can upload a photo or PDF of your premium bill or policy so that we can fill in the insurer, premium, deductible and address for you. To do this, the document is sent to our server and from there to a provider of AI text recognition (Google Cloud, data centre in the EU).

• Purpose: filling in the calculator and the cancellation letter template.
• What is read: insurer, monthly basic health insurance premium, deductible, accident cover, tariff, name, address, insurance number. Bank and account details are not read.
• Storage: We store neither the document nor the details read from it. The details for the cancellation letter template are held only by your browser until you close the window (sessionStorage). The text recognition provider processes the document only for this request and, according to its terms, does not use it for training.
• Legal basis: consent (you actively upload the document).

If you don't want this, simply enter the details by hand.

3.3 Cancellation letter template

The cancellation letter template at /en/cancel-health-insurance/ is created in your browser, including signature and PDF. You send it to the insurer yourself, by email or by post.

PDF by email: This service is only available with an email address. We send you an email with a link through which you download the PDF. Clicking "Download PDF" also confirms your email address. For this, we store the PDF (with name, address, date of birth, insurance number and signature) in a non-public storage area of our database provider in the EU. It can only be reached via the link in your email. We delete it automatically after 60 days, or immediately on request.

What we store: your email address, postcode and year of birth (from the letter), previous and new insurer, deductible and accident cover (from the calculator if you used it, otherwise deductible 2'500 without accident cover) and the time. Purpose: to provide you with the PDF, to answer questions about your switch and, if you leave the switch reminder box ticked, to send you the new premiums once a year (see 3.4). About the letter, we send you no more than three reminders: if you have not collected the PDF after two days; three days after collection, a question about registering with the new insurer; and from 10 December, a question about the confirmation. We store your answers, and you can unsubscribe from each reminder with one click. By sending, you accept this processing. Deletion at any time on request to hello@handyabo.com.

Statistics: For every letter created we store the postcode and year of birth (if given in the letter), previous and new insurer, your choice regarding supplementary insurance and the insurer's cancellation channel. No name, no address, no email, no IP address.

For the PDF, the page loads the jsPDF software library from cdnjs (Cloudflare, USA) on the first click. As with any page view, Cloudflare sees your IP address and your browser, but none of the details in the letter.

Until 30 September 2026 there was instead a service that sent the letter by email. We delete the details collected through it (name, address, email, previous and new insurer) on request to hello@handyabo.com.

3.4 Switch reminder

If you turn on the switch reminder in the calculator or via "Send me the PDF" in the cancellation letter tool, we store:

• Email address
• Postcode, year of birth, deductible, accident cover
• optionally, your current insurer and the amount you pay today
• from the cancellation letter tool, also your new insurer, the source of the sign-up and the time of consent

Purpose: Once a year, when the FOPH publishes the new premiums (end of September), we send you your personal comparison by email.
Legal basis: Consent. In the calculator, you confirm your address via a link in a first email (double opt-in). In the cancellation letter tool, the switch reminder box is ticked by default; you can untick it before sending and unsubscribe with every email.
Retention period: Until you unsubscribe; every email contains an unsubscribe link. We delete unconfirmed sign-ups after 30 days.

3.5 Technical access data

When you visit our website, the following data is transmitted automatically:

• IP address (anonymised)
• Date and time of access
• Page / URL visited
• Browser type and operating system
• Referrer URL

This data is needed for the technical operation and security of the website and is deleted after 30 days.

4. Cookies & tracking

abovergleich.com sets no marketing or advertising cookies.

We use the following technologies:

Since we do not use marketing cookies, no cookie banner is required. We do not set any cookies. Your browser remembers some calculator entries locally (such as your insurer) until you delete them.

5. Third-party providers & data transfers abroad

To run this website, we work with specialised service providers in the following categories:

Data transfers to the USA: Some service providers are based in the USA. The USA does not have a level of data protection equivalent to Swiss law. Transfers take place on the basis of standard contractual clauses (SCC) under Art. 16 para. 2 let. d FADP or on the basis of the legitimate interest in operating the website. The providers used are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

6. Affiliate links

abovergleich.com contains affiliate links to health insurers and other providers. If you click on such a link, you are redirected to the provider's website. UTM parameters are passed in the URL (e.g. utm_source=abovergleich), which show the provider where the visit came from. No personal data is transferred from us to the provider. The providers' own privacy policies apply to data processing on their websites.

We do not sell leads and do not pass on phone numbers or email addresses to third parties (insurers, call centres or similar).

7. Data sources

The premiums shown in the health insurance calculator come from the official data of the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH), published on priminfo.admin.ch. All information without guarantee.

8. Data security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data:

• Encrypted transmission (HTTPS/TLS) on all pages and API endpoints
• Access control at database level: switch reminder data can only be reached through our server functions, not publicly
• Access to servers and databases is restricted to authorised persons

9. Your rights (Art. 25-29 FADP)

Under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection, you have the following rights:

• Right of access: You can ask at any time whether we process personal data about you, and which data.
• Right to rectification: You can request the correction of inaccurate personal data.
• Right to erasure: You can request the deletion of your personal data, provided no statutory retention obligation prevents this.
• Right to data delivery / portability: You can request that your data be handed over in a common electronic format.
• Right to object: You can object to the processing of your data at any time, in particular by deactivating the switch reminder.

10. Right to lodge a complaint

If you believe that the processing of your data violates the Data Protection Act, you can lodge a complaint with the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC):
